Week 4 - Pharell, KFC, Earthquake and Familiar Faces
Week 4 - Pharell, KFC, Earthquake and Familiar Faces
This week has been busy crazy!! I didn't know that you could fit so many appointments in one day!! By the time I finally stop to rest, I'm lying dead on the couch haha.
So the funny thing about New Zealand is they LOVE KFC!! Like Kentucky Fried Chicken. They have McDonald's, but everyone would rather have KFC. Turns out it's actually really good!! It's very different from KFC's back home. (Picture Below)
During one of our lunches we sat outside, and while we were eating there was a flock of seagulls hanging out in front of us. I named one of the Pharell. He was pretty easy to point out since he would run towards all the other seagulls, and they would all run away. It was almost as if they were playing tag and Pharell was it haha.
This week we were able to go on exchanges. So I spent the night with Sister Lewis who is also from Utah, but just lives further south. She's way fun and spunky, and loves to ride horses. It was way fun to get to know her and to be in Te Puke (which is the Kiwi Capitol of the world).
The coolest part of this week was definitely when we meet Jenette. She's less active and lives all by herself. She remarried and has 4 grandchildren I think, but I think her husband has passed away. When we knocked on her door, she gave me a funny look and kept staring at me. Then she told me "Oh sorry I thought you were my daughter". I was a little surprised. I'm not sure anyone has ever told me I look like any body. She continued by saying "Where are you from?" I told her I was from "Utah", and she said "Weird, my daughter is living in Colorado". We couldn't stay long because she had to leave, but she invited us in long enough for me to look at a photo of her daughter on her wall. The resemblance was scary good. It was almost as if I was looking in a mirror. Her daughter Caroline has light blond curly/fizzy hair, she has fair skin, blue/green eyes, and the shape of her face looks just like mine. We meet with her later that week, and she even came to church.
I gave away my 1st Book of Mormon with my Testimony written inside it!! That's exciting. Fathers Day here is actually in September, so Fathers Day in New Zealand was yesterday. Weird, right!?!
Yes we had an earthquake, but it was mostly underwater/underground, so there wasn't much damage done. I didn't feel it at all; I was sleeping (4:00AM). They were really concerned about a tsunami, but that didn't happen either. So don't worry, we are all OK.
That's all the time I have. Until next week.
