Week 31: Noah and the Rain, and Articles of Faith
I'm not quiet sure if God promised Noah that he would never flood the earth again, because man have the rains come tumbling down!! There were times I was driving with the window wipers on full speed/high and it was still blurry and hard to see clearly. We've been told there's been parts of New Zealand with water to their hips!! I felt bad for the missionaries without a car; even with a car, we still got drenched.
Even though I made the rain sound like it was miserable, I actually really enjoyed being in the rain. It's something that might not ever happen again, so I had fun while it lasted. Just hope it doesn't last too much longer. Not sure how fun tracking in hip-high water is, haha.
Miracles come in unexpected ways. Elder Baker (our District Leader) promised us another keen investigator for baptism this week. At first I thought it would be a specific individual that I had in mind, or a new investigator that we would find tracking. I was wrong. We visited with Sue (name changed) today, hoping to talk with KJ about them getting married. We waited there for an hour watching Mormon Messages, and reviewing the baptismal questions hoping he'd show up in that time, but he never came home. After testifying, ending with a closing prayer, and saying good-byes, Sue introduced us to her son, who was 9 years-old. It wasn't till hours later, that I realized that Sue's son was the keen investigator we had been promised!! Like Sister Jabeque always says, "God really does love me."
One of our less-active members is a well-known internet idol. She makes funny videos and puts them on Facebook, hoping to increase her viewers and customers for her perfume products, so she can provide for her family. She's quite a character, and when you talk with her, she never looks/makes eye contact with you. The entire time we were visiting her she was doing most of the talking. Afterwards, I found out that she's quiet lonely and has little to no friends. Then I thought to myself "How could someone with 1000's of followers be lonely?" The world tries to convince you that the more Facebook friends the better, but in reality, someone with 1000's of Facebook friends can have no real friends. Makes me grateful for the true friends I have in my life, especially Shebly Moss and Kateyln Fox. Thank you for always being there for me and being my best friends and best college roomie. :)
Turns out you really can learn something new everyday. Today I memorized the 9th and 10th Articles of Faith. Two articles I've probably only heard once or twice in my life. Kiara's (name changed) son had her son Jake (name changed) stand in front of my companion and I to recite all 13 Articles of Faith. Articles 1-4 are ones I could recite in my sleep, but as we started moving towards articles 8 and 9, Jake started struggling, and I admitted that I probably couldn't recite those ones myself. So Jake and I spent the next 30 minutes or so memorizing articles 9 and 10. It was actually really hard trying to memorize them!! But at the same time it was kind of fun!! It's been so long since I was excited to learn something new. I had forgotten the joy of learning. I've had a bad mentality that I know everything, which I know is not true, but that's how I've been feeling for a while now. Now I know both articles 9 and 10. You could even quiz me if you'd like haha.
Hope you have a good week.
